Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hardcourt
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first title for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
The athlete, a ex- world number one, has had a difficult season, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.
The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in specific - caused him exiting of the top ten and eventually separating with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.
Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.
This marks the player's first trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface after March of 2023.
Victory also signifies Medvedev has won 21 victories at twenty-one different competitions.
"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children at once, so to secure a title is really nice," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.
Medvedev's retrieving strategy and recurring emotional displays on court had prompted observers to question if his capacity to play at the elite level was over.
But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.
The champion came back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, winning 4 of the last five points to go ahead.
Both players swapped break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden professional title, gained dominance to push for a decider.
The opponent rescued four initial opportunities in a competitive third set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Appropriately, the winner secured the win with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
